Chronic pain care in Sydney, NS.Pain is real. It can be managed.

We’ll help you understand your options and find a way forward.

How pain works

When the alarm won’t switch off

Pain is your body’s alarm. Sometimes it keeps ringing after the body has healed. When it lasts past three months, we call it chronic pain.

The nervous system gets more sensitive and turns the volume up. That’s a real change in the body—not “all in your head.”

Your role in care

Your part

Keep moving, at your pace.

  • • Track pain, flares, and treatments.
  • • Take medicines as agreed. Tell us about side effects.
  • • Protect your sleep.
  • • Set goals around doing more, not just a pain score.
Regular check-ins

Follow-up

Assess, treat, review, adjust. Bring your pain log and medication list. Tell us what’s working and what isn’t.

On opioids? We review regularly, sometimes with urine tests or the provincial record. Routine safety, not distrust.

Your Safety

Get help now if you have

Call 911 or go to the ER if you have:

  • New leg weakness or numbness.
  • Numbness in the groin, or loss of bladder/bowel control.
  • Sudden, worst-ever pain.
  • Fever, or redness/swelling at an injection site.

Opioid overdose:

Slow or stopped breathing, pinpoint pupils, or being unable to wake someone may signal an overdose. Call 911. Give naloxone. Free kits are available at the clinic or your pharmacy.

Progress to look for

What success looks like

Not zero pain—smaller, steadier, easier to live with. Walking the dog. Sleeping through. Fewer flares.

  • Doing more of what matters — walking the dog, getting back to work, keeping up with family.
  • Sleeping better — fewer nights interrupted by pain.
  • Needing less rescue — fewer flares, fewer emergency visits, and the lowest helpful dose of medication.
  • Understanding your pain — knowing why it persists and what you can do about it.

Results vary; we check progress together.
